Acceptance

Acceptance is an Amnesia: The Dark Descent custom story released on the 28th of November, 2014. It features entirely new music, use of original sounds, fantastic voice acting and an emotionally powerful story.

It is April, 1886, and Christopher, a young 24-year-old man from London living on his own in Gloucestershire awakens from a nightmare which reflects a haunting past. He regrets his past and begins a journey through his memory to remind himself of his wrongdoings in hopes that revisiting his past will help him find some peace of mind.

Looking back two years into his past, he first comes across a note written by himself containing a list of chemicals. His present-self points out how the note reminds him of his ridiculous obsession with immortality. Exploring more of his past, Chris remembers "borrowing" (stealing) the chemicals needed to make this concoction, from his ex-friend Russell. He mentions the end of their friendship being a result of Russ finding out about Chris' desires of defeating death.

The potion is brewed and Chris comes across the people he used to keep prisoner beneath his laboratory. The potion is fed to a prisoner, but Chris falls asleep shortly after. He awakes to an empty prison cell and he must find the prisoner. The prisoner is eventually found, and chases Chris through his house, before his present-tense self quickly snaps himself out of the memory and explains how the memory still haunts him to this day, hence the mutant creatures being present in his nightmare. He goes back to his past to an image of him dumping a dismembered mutant-prisoner back in his cell.

His present self remembers how frustrated he was at this point, as he wasn't able to create the perfect potion to induce immortality. He remembers a book that he read where the author mentioned a chemical. After reading up more about this chemical, Chris decided to consult Russ by writing him a letter, asking him to help him by supplying him with three chemicals to create his next potion. Russ replies and gives Chris his chemicals, and Chris goes on to make the potion.

Chris eventually tries the potion himself, but it quickly has a negative effect on his physical and mental health, and he faints in his bedroom. He awakens to the sound of mutant-prisoners outside of his door, at which point he realises how wrong he has been behaving in his fear of death. He eventually accepts the consiquences of his actions, and opens the door, which ends the story.

Christopher

Christopher Groves was born in London on the 16th of November, 1861, to Lilly Groves, a physician and Ronald Groves, a psychologist. Chris has a keen interest in chemistry and science in general. On the 6th of July, 1883, Chris' father, Ronald, was found dead, having passed away in his sleep as a result of Cholera. Chris was deeply effected by this, and depression and anger spawned an obsessive hate for death, and an obsession with immortality.

Christ set out to create a potion using his skills in chemistry that would illiminate death. Being blinded by anger, fear and hatred, he couldn't see the impossibilities of his idea. After trying to create a potion but failing, his plans backfired on him, and he turned a human, whom he kept prisoner at his house, into a monster. He managed to kill the monster before it killed him, but out of frustration, he gave the two remaining prisoners a weaker version of his potion, but, unbeknown to Chris, this was producing the same results but at a much slower rate.

He seeked help from an ex-friend named Russ, and requested three chemicals from him. He received the chemicals and made the potion, but drank it himself, which impacted his health almost instantly. He collapsed in his bedroom and awoke to the prisoners who had slowly turned into monsters. He managed to escape his house and stayed with his mother in London until it was safe to return to his house.
